“Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.” 1 Corinthians 14:20
“Infants in evil” = inexperienced and incompetent.
“Mature in thinking” = experienced and competent.
“If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” Romans 14:8
Live or die.
We belong to the ever-living one.
Jesus.
Lots of pretend “Christians” on X this week telling people who have had sex before marriage that they are less than. They’ll never be good enough. Never be pure enough.
Weak and wounded sinner… Christ is a gracious Savior. Come to Jesus. He will cleanse and make you new.
All our trials are given us for a purpose.
Every hardship is an opportunity to cry to God.
Every uncertain season that looms is a call to trust God.
Every extended difficulty is an invitation to drink in the grace of God.
Look to God in your trials.
He will not fail you.
“Save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” Matthew 27:40
Ahh.
Now we know what the devil was up to in the wilderness.
“If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” Matthew 4:3
Jesus was already on the Calvary Road of self-denial.
Satan was desperate to get him off.
“You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.” Psalm 65:8
Whether they are crimson and remind of blood,
or bright yellow like a bursting smile,
they are God’s daily declarations
that the arc of existence is joy.
“When the Lord your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land . . . ” Deuteronomy 12:29
The Lord cuts them off.
You dispossess them.
So is all faithful service of the Lord. We work because he has worked. We defeat because he has defeated. We conquer because he has conquered.
In order to believe the gospel, every lost person must be delivered from the "power of Satan." This requires a supernatural work of God.
No amount of persuasiveness on the part of the evangelist will win the sinner to Christ. The sinner must have his eyes opened by the Spirit.
As children of God, we can rest because our hope is not in the mountains.
Our hope is not in the seas.
Our hope is not in a comfortable life and a predictable schedule.
Our hope is in the Lord, the Creator and Ruler over the mountains and the seas, and our Father, the God of Jacob, who is our fortress.
