Threatening to leave every year is abysmal leadership. It is the worst way to be a leader. It is terrible for culture and it is a terrible thing to do as a teammate.
It also results in the team making knee jerk decisions for the happiness of one player with the outlook being one year at a time.
This is an amazing article chronicling the decline of the Milwaukee Bucks.
A lot is in here. One of many things that stood out was that Giannis stopped answering phone calls by the Bucks. No dialogue could be had about his future. He also refused to let any Bucks trainers be with him this offseason.

Giannis is just going to be the next guy (Alonzo Mourning, Shaq, Lebron, Chris Bosh) that went to Miami to chase a ring. He could've been a superstar (Dirk, Steph, Larry Bird) that won a championship that stayed with one team.
I get that everyone wants to fire off their “Thank you Giannis” posts - we’re Midwestern we can’t help it. But I don’t know, bit soon on all that for me, considering how he conducted himself the last year. I’m pretty pissed about all that still.
I will never forgive Marc Lasry selling his ownership stake in the Bucks to Jimmy Haslam. The ownership group turned the franchise around, built the new arena and stadium district, then handed the reins to the worst owner in the NFL.
@Nick_AleChoosey But let me not rain too much on the Heat's parade. You guys pulled off getting a top 3 player. I probably would have done the same if I ran the Heat. I just don't think it will work out the way Giannis thinks it is. If he doesn't win a ring, he altered his legacy for no reason.
@Nick_AleChoosey The draft picks are the assets I was referring to. We thought the same thing about the value of our draft picks with the Jrue Holiday trade. Gave up our future for a quick fix and now look at us lol. Let's see how the roster construction plays out.
@Nick_AleChoosey Ya'll be careful though, we took your salary cap and a majority of your assets. I mean Giannis will be 32 years old this year with 2 non-contact lower leg injuries just in the last year. If he EVER goes down... its going to get real spooky in Miami.. quick
@Nick_AleChoosey I just believed what the man said lol The Bucks made a desperate move to keep Giannis by obtaining Lillard. Giannis forced that hand. Just you wait lol.. Let the Heat come out flat and you'll be getting those sub tweets from Giannis soon enough.
@Nick_AleChoosey@B_ToThaSteezy You may be right, I'm just not seeing it. I think the Heat are going to have to keep Wiggins. You guys are so cash strapped. I don't see how you replace Wiggins productivity with the salary he's making. He's probably even going to take a pay cut
@Nick_AleChoosey I understand why Miami constantly makes it the finals. It's one of the best organizations in the NBA. However, this new CBA format has changed the landscape. The last few champions weren't top heavy, they were deep and diverse teams. I'm just not seeing how the Heat pull this off
