Total comma four engagement has passed 9,000 miles now.
Hands-free through beautiful rural Wisconsin backroads.
My @comma_ai device engagement has come close to 93% since I installed it back in February. That's 93% less driving I have to do on the daily.
Had a weird glitch last night driving home in my Tesla with Sunnypilot running. Suddenly, the Comma screen flashed this message:
"cruise fault: restart the car to engage"
The car started beeping like crazy, alerts popped up demanding immediate takeover, and cruise control/ADAS features disabled. Tesla's alert screen showed:
DI_a124: Cruise control disabled (yellow warning) full functionality restored after a power cycle of the car and device.
Living in rural Wisconsin is peaceful and beautiful, but it comes with its quirks. People often ask why I drive so slowly, this dashcam clip from my Tesla Model Y perfectly explains it. Just when you think the deer will casually watch you pass... nope! How will FSD handle this?
I've been running sunnypilot with the 2026 SC model on my @comma_ai device, and I'm blown away. Butter-smooth lane changes and confident tight cornering, even on unmarked city streets! No way I'm going back to an FSD subscription!
I'm seriously impressed with @comma_ai
Here's a longer clip of the comma 4 running in my 2020 Tesla Model Y โ handling city street turns.
What do y'all want to see next?
I'm thinking experimental mode + heavy stop-and-go traffic, lights, and stop signs. Planning to test that later this week ๐
Drop your ideas below!
@comma_ai 4 device on a Tesla Model Y in experimental mode tackling city streets. Every time I use this device, I become more and more convinced that vision-based self-driving vehicles are the future. I love that I can avoid a subscription and own my open-source AI software.
Just updated my @comma_ai 4 to openpilot 0.11 ๐ฅ
New driving model (trained in simulation), way better longitudinal control, and this sleek new comma four UI with the glowing steering arc is clean, and not as annoying as I first anticipated.
It handles curves smoothly... until the turn exceeds the steering limit and politely asks you to take over.
I wish there was a way to enable more of the available steering torque โ my Tesla Model Yโs steering torque feels underutilized.
