Just some words and thoughts for our Athletes as I sit here on this rainy Day trying to become a better athletic director and coach. We as individuals often romanticize the idea of an overnight success, the sudden rise, the breakthrough moment, the underdog, who seems to come out of nowhere. However, the truth is that there is no such thing as an overnight success. Every story of sudden achievements is rooted in years of quiet effort, unseen struggles, and relentless work. The hours you invest when no one is watching will prepare you for that breakthrough moment. While you may gain recognition overnight, it is the culmination of years of hard work that brought you to that point. People will NEVER fully understand the effort you put into achieving success because they only see the results. Sometimes, seeing the facts of your labor takes years. There is no miracle moment. Becoming an overnight success takes years, but your hard work will eventually pay off. In hindsight, if you never put in the work, you are never going to see the results or never have a chance to have a moment. To all the athletes putting in hard work, I see you and I appreciate you. It’s easy to get down when you feel like you’re alone in changing your cultures, but one day “YOU “will have that breakthrough moment you deserve because of all the hard work you’ve put in. Have a good rest of your summer!
Just like Curt Cignetti with Indiana Football, Ben McCollum spent a LONG time coaching at lower levels before getting the opportunity to coach at a Power 5 School
You don’t hear a lot of whining from these guys - it’s always gratitude and hard work
Underrated coaching truth:
The best coaches aren’t obsessed with talent.
They’re obsessed with effort.
With attitude.
With toughness.
That’s what wins when it gets hard.
Loyal assistant coaches matter more than most people realize.
They support the vision.
They protect the culture.
They tell you the truth.
Great programs aren’t built by one coach.
They’re built by a loyal staff that pulls in the same direction.
This remains one of the great sound bites
“The bible is very clear that the greatest form of love is discipline... I'm thankful that God made me in a way that I'm not afraid of confrontation & I'm not afraid of holding people accountable."
"You build confidence by doing really hard things over & over - cause that's your intent - that's your focus - your job is your focus. The game honors toughness.”
-Brad Stevens
@TweetsbyCoachP 1) Make it fun. Every day. If it’s fun, they’ll want to play more.
2) Ballhandling. Fun
3) Passing. Fun
4) Shooting mechanics. Fun
5) Schemes where everyone handles the ball. Fun

…
437) Designing & running plays to get your best player (or your son) fifty shots per game.
It’s everyone’s just to work on the mission and everyone’s job to protect the culture.
Not just the coach.
Not just the seniors.
Not just the starters.
Your mindset is the #1 determining factor into what you do daily and how well you do it. Mindset affects how you handle opportunity, adversity, change, challenge, success, and preparation. Skillset means nothing without mindset (higher performers have both).
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

All because I could put the ball in a net. All because I simply played my role.
Sitting here, at the Hall of Fame ceremony. Just grateful to be surrounded by so much greatness. Hard not to be inspired and humbled.
Thank you, @hoophall@usabasketball, for this honor.
Humility is discouraged in sports today. Everyone is encouraged to promote themselves and grab as much attention as possible to get as many endorsements as possible. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer on the world and can’t stop talking about how normal he is, how he’s nothing special, and sometimes it’s difficult for him to even understand why he cares so much about golf because it’s of so little importance. He’s the best role model of my lifetime. I hope he dominates for the next decade so I can show my kids how a real athlete and man of God conducts himself.
“My faith & my family is what’s most important to me… I have the same friends I had growing up, I don’t think I’m anything special because some weeks I’m better at shooting a lower score than other guys are.” — Scottie Scheffler
