Dozens of @KeeneState_ students and faculty are attending the annual NH-INBRE annual conference. Today, @GovChrisSununu visited with some of our students during the poster session. More KSC students present tomorrow.
Took me a while to find my prized collection of #BooksINeverUsed but here are a few that total up to around $300. I was lucky enough to be part of #KSCbio where I didn’t need to purchase any books! Maybe this should be a guide for all programs @karencang @kellymariebio
Finished my poster on the impact atmospheric CO2 has on stomatal length and density! Would have more plant species if it weren't for fruit flies 🤷♂️ #KSCBio#PhyteClub
Making progress highlighting the stomata from my sweet corn (Zea mays) cuticle, a little more threshold tweaking and selecting for medium length contours should do the trick! #KSCBio#PhyteClub
If you ever have the opportunity to pick between a project and a test, choose the project and better yet make it a challenging project! This is a great way to gain experience of how experiments are conducted and can help fill in your undergrad CV #KSCBio
Some advice I could give to new students is to get out of your comfort zone by taking bio electives that might not be close to what you plan on specializing in, it could open a door of new career pathways you never expected you would be so interested in! #KSCBio
Lab skills are very crucial, integrating a way to use research labs as teaching facilities on occasion could be really useful! Similar to the neuro course last year, we were able to use @suwhitte tadpoles to conduct our own research projects #KSCbio
It would definitely be expensive but when does cost outweigh the value! Lab skills are so important for many of our futures in the field of science, and it would reflect well on KSC to have students leaving with good lab skills! #KSCBio
I feel like adding more labs to the early bio courses would be really beneficial! As bio students many of us have gone through weekly labs in both chemistry and physics but until upper level bio courses I only recall having one or two labs #KSCBio
Here's a PHENOMENAL blog post by @JacquelynGill for anyone interested graduate school! Be PREPARED and HONEST and realize that you will be an incredible investment for any mentor to take on! #KSCBio https://t.co/ZTsmJpDNOp via @JacquelynGill
My stomatal plasticity experiment is almost set up! One tank will have CO2 pumped in via yeast respiration from a mixture of yeast, sugar, and warm water, while the other tank will have the same set up minus the yeast #KSCbio#phyteclub#plasticity
What a stunning moth! One would think, with an amazing adaptation such as this, these moths would be much more common than they currently are. These moths migrated to England in the 1700's but mass populations of this species were lost do to a poor climate in the 1950's and 60's
