at the same time, educators/leaders need to be transparent and intentional about redefining that common "cultural knowledge" - actively centering narratives from marginalized groups - or they counteract the opportunity to increase equity through improved educational outcomes. 9/9
Teaching a common base of "cultural knowledge" is a good thing in terms of the science of making sure kids from all backgrounds learn to read (which is essential to real justice in the United States); 8/9
