It depends on what your goals are. But if you are interested in civilization, stability, order, virtue at scale, then third worldism is incompatible with those ends.
Mr Lament is a great friend of the Journal and we have nothing but respect for him. However, on this matter I must disagree
Third worldism should be avoided at all cost, it is anti civilizational in essence.
In practice this is an ideology built on resentment. The third worldist says you have wealth --> you could not have acquired wealth legitimately --> I must kill you to restore equality (by taking your wealth after you are dead)
@C_Classiques Lorsque les politiciens Canadiens commenceront à parler sérieusement de la Cour suprême et de la charte de '82, nous aurons enfin de la politique sérieuse dans ce pays.
Really sorry for all the excellent people getting bad news at CTV today.
I don’t know what the answer is, but nothing is going to be left of our media but websites owned by billionaires and hedge funds. We’re winding the clock back 150 years.
@C_Classiques@Dunbrachen As a result, you get these absurd outcomes where juries exonerate self-defence cases for defending themselves during home invasions.
Because the common foundation is lost, life becomes less predictable. More intervention required. The citizen has fewer rights and is less free.
@C_Classiques@Dunbrachen Consider, for example, property relations with the modern state. Or taxes and rights.
Property is antithetical to 'equality' hence the consistent dilution of property rights. Common understanding of law right to defend life + property do not line up with the de jure law-
@C_Classiques@Dunbrachen But perhaps this is the root of our disagreement.
Should all nations have states?
I don't think a realistic view of history leads one to believe that all nations can have their own states. Ergo a state containing multiple nations (not necessarily equally) is not a problem.
@C_Classiques@Dunbrachen However, I must respectfully disagree with the position stated in this tweet. The Canadian state exists and has legal relations with different explicit nations within the territorial boundaries of Canada. I do not see this as a problem, merely a reality.

@JournalCanada@C_Classiques The state/nation distinction works for Quebec but not for the rest of Canada. That's the problem with your position (and with Canada in general).
Most (not all) Canadians outside Quebec see Canada as both their nation and their state. Most Quebecois see Canada as just a state.
