My brain is yet to differentiate between "wurde" and "war", like in the sentence:

Dieser ball wurde/war gefangen. (This ball was caught,)

I'm not sure how wurde makes the meaning different?
Probably, a passive voice?
In English they are both translated to "was" and is passive.
