@PlisskenPatriot As a millennial, this is pretty funny. I'd add mustaches, avocados, and bacon-themed anything. Single-speed bikes and Disney adults.
Some Gen Alpha will be making lists of "inherently Zoomer" things in about 15 years. It'll be funny to see what you guys get roasted for.
Crime ends when we stop treating criminals like victims and instead treat them with zero tolerance and severe punishments. Not because punishments make them better. The punishment is to remove them from society, and even from life, to ensure that the rest of us can live well.
This is a communist take and shows why we keep making excuses for criminals instead of punishing them brutally. If the cause of all crime is wealth inequality, then every criminal is a victim. The people they victimize, if they have more wealth, kinda deserve it.
You actually reduce crime by eliminating poverty. You reduce crime with universal healthcare, public housing, livable wages, and free college. You reduce violence by creating happy, healthy communities that aren’t constantly fighting over basic needs and material resources.
The bar should not be lowered; the Universities should shrink, if not vanish entirely. We continually have lowered standards and then wonder why college kids are idiots. You accepted them illiterate as they were; what do you expect?
It's a shame kids today don't have the attention span to read, but let's be real. Until the 1700s, literacy rates hovered around 30% at best, and in many places were as low as 5-15%.
Civilization doesn't collapse because people can't read.
I don't think anybody really grasps how desperate this situation is.
University professors are now saying they are unable to teach history because reading long books and passages is how a person learns history. College kids are incapable of reading more than a few pages.
Some classes don't assign any reading at all now, only lectures.
There is an assumption among the people managing this decline that reading is just a way of receiving information. It isn't. Proper reading is how we build the mental muscle to synthesize ideas and evaluate them.
If the catastrophic decline in reading and literacy is not addressed now, we risk losing everything.
Western civilization cannot survive the death of reading because it was built by people with the kind of cognitive depth that a culture of deep reading brings:
Complex reasoning, extended internal dialogue, the capacity to hold opposing ideas in tension. Our systems and institutions are complex, and they require well ordered minds to maintain them.
Reading forms minds, and the West was built by the richest minds in history.
The sooner we come to that realization and stop expecting the common man to be anything other than common, is the sooner we can get back to recognizing our inherent differences and adjusting society accordingly.
@FantasyGalaxies I'll bite. Most of the rest of the movie is garbage. The CGI is awful and so overused that it makes the whole thing look like slop even in the first 20 minutes. Hayden's acting is awful. Dialogue is ridiculous, and even this fight has absolute garbage lighting and cinematography.
@thatmechaguy Plenty of right-wing people enjoy it. We're used to watching Marxist slop interlaced into everything and can enjoy good shows despite the framing.
The show is good because it portrays the Empire's cold, misanthropic nature and why they were genuinely evil.
@doxie_gay It's things like this that will later make you wonder, "Why is there a diarrhea clause in the Terms and Conditions for this float tank place?"
