@keikiakapueo @littlepeleina Oh, and Kahakauwila's "The Old Paniolo Way," also in her collection This is Paradise. I have never not cried when I read the final pages. The protagonist moves between HI and NorCal, I don't want to spoil anything, but one of the best short stories I've ever read.

@keikiakapueo @littlepeleina Sloane Leong's graphic novel Map to the Sun is about 2 girls on a basketball team, navigating relationships and life as one moves back and forth to O'ahu. Kristiana Kahakauwila's "39 Rules for Making a Hawaiian Funeral into a Drinking Game" is all the diasporic mixed race feels.

Just got chicken skin working with Queen Lili'uokalani's correspondence from 1897, housed at The Huntington. In it, she gives instructions for the publication of her translation of The Kumulipo and also Hawai'i's Story.
