KALRO Food Crops Research Centre- Alupe hosted 100 lead farmers from the Cereal Growers Association (CGA), Kakamega County, for a two-day exchange visit designed to strengthen climate-smart and sustainable agriculture.

The Farmer Service Centres (FSCs) and Village-Based Advisors (VBAs) received specialized training in:
✅ Soil health, sampling, testing and analysis interpretation
✅ Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) technologies
✅ Conservation agriculture tools and green manure cover crops
✅ Improved seed technologies
✅ Medicinal and aromatic plants
✅ Nursery management practices for oil palm and fruit trees
✅ Value addition and agro-processing of soybean and oil palm

The participants also visited Wezesha Agri-Eco Hub, where they explored innovative urban farming technologies and modern piggery, dairy, fishery and poultry production systems.

The impact extends far beyond the 100 participants. As community-based extension champions, the VBAs will cascade this knowledge to fellow smallholder farmers, driving increased productivity, climate resilience, diversified incomes, and improved food and nutrition security.

Through strategic partnerships and knowledge exchange, KALRO continues to empower farmers with innovative technologies that transform agriculture and livelihoods.
