The Congress party’s and Mamata Banerjee’s sudden love for Vande Mataram would be hilarious if it weren’t so blatantly hypocritical.

This is the same Congress that truncated the National Song in 1935 to appease communal interests. And Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister who dare not utter “Vande Mataram” or “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” for fear of upsetting her Muslim vote bank, is now performing indignation for the cameras.

But here is the truth:

For decades, Parliament has followed long-established, non-political rules of decorum, laid down not by any government but by the Presiding Officers of the Constituent Assembly, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha themselves.

1. Parliamentary Bulletins are routine, not political.
Before every session, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat issues Parliamentary Bulletin Part II, informing Members about parliamentary customs and practices, something done every single session for decades. This includes guidance on what is appropriate inside the House.

2. These conventions originate from the Constituent Assembly (15 March 1948).
When a member repeatedly said “Thank you,” Speaker of the Constituent Assembly firmly intervened.
His ruling?

“No ‘Thanks’; no ‘Thank you’; no ‘Jai Hind’; no ‘Bande Mataram’; nothing of the kind.”

This ruling became part of parliamentary etiquette, followed ever since.

3. Lok Sabha reiterated the same rule in 1962.
When a member shouted “Bolo Bharat Mata Ki Jai” inside the House during the debate on Chinese aggression, Speaker corrected him:

“This is not a public rally… such slogans are not raised inside Parliament.”
The member immediately apologised.

These principles were documented in Kaul & Shakdhar, the authoritative text on parliamentary procedure.

4. Rajya Sabha has repeated these same guidelines for decades, under all governments.
From the 200th to the 209th Sessions (2003–2006) the full text, explicitly mentioning “Jai Hind” and “Vande Mataram”, was printed in the Bulletin. From 2007 to 2021, an abridged version appeared (stating “no slogans”). Since 2021, the original full text has been restored.

5. For the current Winter Session, the Secretariat simply repeated the same decades-old advisory.
The Bulletin issued on 24 November 2025 restated the traditional rule: no slogans of any kind during parliamentary proceedings.

This is standard practice, not a government order, not a ban, not a restriction on the National Song.
It is purely about maintaining decorum inside the House, exactly as the Founding Fathers intended.

So what changed?

Nothing, except the politics of those pretending to be offended.

Congress, which once mutilated Vande Mataram to keep its “vote bank” intact, now wants to lecture the nation on nationalism.
Mamata Banerjee, who has spent her entire political career avoiding nationalist slogans so as not to upset one community, now claims concern about “restrictions”?

This is not love for Vande Mataram. This is sheer political theatre.

Facts remain facts:
✔ The advisory is decades old.
✔ It is issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, not the Government.
✔ It applies equally to Thank you, Jai Hind, Vande Mataram, or any slogan—inside the House only.
✔ It has nothing to do with patriotism and everything to do with parliamentary decorum.

So before Congress and Mamata Banerjee stage their next manufactured outrage, they should answer one simple question:
Why did they reject Vande Mataram for decades, until politics forced them to pretend otherwise?

এ কোন বীভৎসতার পশ্চিমবঙ্গ? যেখানে ঘুমন্ত একটি দুধের শিশুকেও অপহরণ করে ধর্ষণ করা হয়? শহর থেকে মফস্বল, শহরতলী থেকে প্রত্যন্ত গ্রাম সর্বত্রই মহিলাদের উপর নিপীড়ন-নির্যাতন!

একদিকে নারী নির্যাতনের চূড়ান্ত বীভৎসতা অন্যদিকে ধর্ষক নরপিশাচদের রক্ষা করার আপ্রাণ প্রচেষ্টা স্বয়ং আইনের রক্ষক পুলিশের!

ব্যর্থ মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আর কতদিন আসন আঁকড়ে থাকবেন?

ED, Kolkata has arrested Indubhushan Haldar alias Dullal on 13.10.2025, a middleman involved in facilitating issuance of Indian Passports for Bangladeshi Nationals, in the case of Azad Hussain @ Ajad Mallik @ Ahammed Hossain Azad a Pakistani national. He was produced before the Hon’ble Special Court, Bichar Bhavan, Kolkata, which granted 5 days custody to ED for further investigation. This is the 2nd arrest in a case related to Azad Hussain @ Ahammed Hossain Azad, who was revealed to be a Pakistani National residing in India under assumed identity of Ajad Mallik and involved in facilitating the issuance of fraudulently obtained Indian Passports to foreign nationals in lieu of money.
