A PSA for anyone considering a trip to HersheyPark one day, and maybe a ride on Sky Rush, their most insane roller coaster. This is especially true for @charlescwcooke.

When they say put everything from your pockets into a locker beforehand, they mean it.

I was sitting in the back right seat (for maximum airtime, according to my stepson). After a launch 200 feet straight up, and hairpinning immediately back down 200 feet on the other side, my cellphone catapulted out of my back pocket due to the negative G-force.

Once I got off the ride, disoriented, I realized my phone wasn’t still with me. It wasn’t in the seat. My wife turned on FindFriends to see if I was in the middle of the lake most of this ride covers.

My phone showed up. It was on dry land…and moving. I took my wife’s phone, and the chase was on. Followed it all the way to the front of the park. Finally gained ground when my phone stopped at Lost & Found.

Once inside the room, I asked the lady behind the counter. She had just clocked in for her shift, and on her way, a phone landed on the asphalt at her feet. She looked up, calculated the trajectory, and figured it had to come across the lake from Sky Rush.

The phone still works, however it now looks like Mayhem, the Allstate guy. The screen and case are cracked, but the data is intact and it will be able to transplant everything to a new phone on the way.

The Otter Box? It died a hero. The odds of an unladen iPhone hurtling through space at 73 mph, 300 feet away, only to bounce off the asphalt before skidding to a stop and living to tell the tale is around 0%.

Unlike James Talarico, I thank God for looking over me once again.

Charles, use the locker. And get an Otter Box.
