Day 2: We explored lava caves, volcanic deposits, and spectacular viewpoints around Mt. Fuji, while learning about the geological evolution of one of Japan’s most dynamic volcanic regions.

Day 1: We learned about the monitoring activities of Hakone’s volcanic system at the Kanagawa Prefectural Hot Springs Research Institute, before heading into the field to examine outcrops at Ōwakudani and along the caldera rim.
