Not my Daily Diary
Friday 8th May 2026
A day with not a lot happening
When I woke up today, I already had a clear plan, I wanted to get as much work done as possible renovating our flower cart. Knowing we had our usual Friday trip to Morrisons planned later, I knew my working time was limited, so I hit the ground running
We’d both slept like logs after yesterday’s fabulous day at Shropshire Ironworks Sculpture Park. It was wonderful spending time in the fresh country air and the fun of exploring those incredible sculptures. No wonder we woke up refreshed and smiling.
I slipped out of bed at 8am. but disturbed Chris. She wanted to watch the telly, and I gently persuaded her that another hour of rest would do her the world of good. She settled back down with a contented sigh, and I couldn’t help but smile.
With Chris's dementia, her staying in bed safely in the morning helps me enormously to find the time to carry on with work outside.
Looking after Chris always feels like its most important job of the day, but I also need time for myself too.
Outside, the morning was nothing short of glorious, bright, warm spring sunshine. I skipped my shower and headed straight for the cart, I worked on the roof slats with real purpose. A couple of hours later, I’d completely finished one whole side. I have to say it again, cable ties are absolute genius. The best invention since the combustion engine! I couldn't have done the job on my own without them.
Chris hadn't slept long after I got up, and she wanted me to put Chateau DIY on the TV for her. It always makes me smile. She's watching others doing DIY on the telly while I'm actually doing DIY downstairs.
Once I was happy with my progress, I went inside and helped Chris get ready. We soon went on our weekly adventure to Morrisons. What started as a routine shopping trip quickly turned into unexpected entertainment. We witnessed quite a showdown! The assistant manager was politely but very firmly telling off a driver who’d parked in a parent & and child space without any children in tow. The conversation got rather loud, with plenty of arm-waving indignant replies and threats to ban the driver. We couldn’t stop chuckling about it all the way home. It certainly spiced up our Friday shop!
Back at the house, I unpacked everything while Chris relaxed, and then I got busy in the kitchen cooking dinner. Thick, tasty cambridge sausages, poached eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, and homemade oven chips. Simple and absolutely delicious. There’s nothing better than sitting down together for a home cooked meal after a busy day.
It's been a week of highs and lows,
Chris and I take each day as it comes. There were good moments and difficult ones, I'm just grateful we get to spend them together.
Have a lovely weekend wherever you are.
Keith and Chris
