If UPI starts charging merchants, they will stop accepting UPI payments… just like they refuse payments via credit card UPI.

So people will go back to using cash. The government seems to be moving backward.

Stop Ladli Behna Yojana, stop free bus rides, stop the monthly free pension … but keep UPI free, or else you're going to have a tough time in the next election.

Same experience here: shopkeepers are refusing UPI credit card payments over the 2% MDR. Many time they actually asked me to pay back the deducted amount.

So I stopped paying using UPI credit card.

Shopkeeper: Haa kr do lekin fir 10000 aur alag se 200 aur upi krne honge aapke.
Customer: Pr 200 extra Kyu
Shopkeeper: Kyunki Sarkar humse 2% extra legi agar transaction 2000 se upar ho toh.
Customer: To fir rehne do main aapko 10000 cash hi de deta hu.

Moral of the Story: UPI will die soon, just like credit cards, and cash culture will be back.
