French presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon has spoken out against PlayStation’s plan to stop releasing new physical games starting in January 2028.
He says video games are an important part of culture and should be protected, not treated like ordinary products.
“Video games are not mere merchandise; they are cultural assets.”
He also warned that a digital-only future could mean players lose important rights.
“Tomorrow, you will pay without ever owning anything. No loan, no resale, no guarantee of keeping what we’ve paid for.”
