I appreciate that Karmelo is not facing the death penalty.

And although I am generally against the death penalty in practice, I am not against it in principle.

The reason why I am against it in practice is that the system is broken, sometime innocent people are convicted, and sometimes the penalty is abused.

It is becoming increasingly clear that this is not one of those cases.

1) There is an ADMISSION that Karmelo did it (hence, the bogus "self defense" argument. "Self-defense" is PREDICATED on the ADMISSION of having done the act.

2) From the evidence emerging, Karmelo brought a knife to a track meet, deliberately provoked a confrontation, then after thinking he had provoked enough, stabbed Austin IN THE CHEST.

Premeditated.

Malicious fabrication of bogus defense.

And why do I highlight "IN THE CHEST"?

Because it is not even one of those cases where he arguably didn't mean to apply LETHAL force. Like if he were to have stabbed him in the leg wanting to hurt but not kill, but severed the femoral artery, the kid died. MAYBE then it could be argued he didn't mean to apply lethal force.

He brought a knife, provoked the kids, then in the absence of any threat, stabbed Austin IN THE CHEST.

If there is a case where the death penalty is warranted and could be applied without fear of killing an innocent man, and without legitimate concern of an abusive system, the evidence is revealing that this is such a case.
