🏴‍☠️ CAPTAIN’S LOG #8 — THE MARÍA

Juan had finally become a pirate.

There was only one problem.

He didn’t have a ship.

For years, Juan sailed with other captains, chasing rumors of treasure across every miserable corner of the sea.

Then one morning, after a particularly bad storm, Juan spotted something wedged between the rocks of a small island.

A ship.

Technically.

One mast was broken.

The sails were shredded.

The hull leaked.

And something had apparently been living below deck.

Peso took one look at it.

“No.”

Juan smiled.

“She’s perfect.”

The ship had been abandoned for years.

Most pirates would’ve stripped her for timber.

Juan spent nearly every peso he had repairing her instead.

New mast.

Patched hull.

Cannons that worked…

Mostly.

Weeks later, Juan stood proudly on the deck.

One of the crew asked:

“What are you going to call her?”

Juan looked toward the horizon.

For once, he didn’t make a joke.

“The María.”

His mother’s name.

The woman who’d spent years serving sailors in a little cantina in Puerto de Nada…

while her idiot son listened to their stories and dreamed about treasure.

Juan raised the sails.

Peso landed beside him.

And The María left port for the first time.

Juan finally had his own ship.

Now he just needed a crew crazy enough to follow him.

The sea was unusually quiet that night.

The Crew sat aboard The María, drinking and telling stories when someone finally asked:

“Captain… how did you become a pirate anyway?”

Juan leaned back and smiled.

“You want to know where Captain Juan came from?”

Even Peso groaned.

“Then I have to tell you about Puerto de Nada…”

🏴‍☠️ CAPTAIN’S LOG #7 — MEET PESO

Every great pirate captain needs a loyal companion.

Juan got Peso instead.

Years ago, Juan found a wrecked smuggler’s ship drifting off the coast.

No crew.

No cargo.

Just a very angry macaw locked inside a wooden cage.

Juan kicked open the cage.

“YOU’RE FREE NOW, AMIGO!”

Peso immediately bit him.

Then flew away.

Juan stood there bleeding.

“He’ll come back.”

He did not come back.

Not that day.

Not the next day.

But three days later, Juan woke to find the bird sitting on the railing of his ship.

In Peso’s beak…

A GOLD COIN.

Juan’s eyes went wide.

“YOU KNOW WHERE THE TREASURE IS.”

Peso stared at him.

Juan stared at the coin.

From that moment forward, Juan was convinced he’d discovered the greatest treasure-hunting bird in the Caribbean.

There was just one problem.

Peso hadn’t found the coin.

He’d stolen it from Juan’s pocket three days earlier.

Juan still doesn’t know.

Peso has never corrected him.

And they’ve been looking for treasure together ever since.
