Launching @almibarapp with @sriverag787 so everyone in hospitality has a path to leadership. Everyone.

CEOs are supposed to be the steady hand that weathers any storm. Founders are something else.
The hero story everyone wants is the rescue. No one shows the middle.
Even “build in public” mostly shows the product, not the company. The tech, not the team. The wins, not the doubt.
I haven’t shown my middle either. Founders who have, what made you start?
My first @bcbrooklyn. Walking in felt like a milestone. The real one was watching friends hit milestones of their own. Working behind the stick, opening their new bar, curating their first pop-up.
“Forward deployed engineer” is the new hot role. But most of the job descriptions lean heavily technical.
I worked as a software consultant. The tech was maybe 5% of the job.
The other 95% was listening. Being the in-house psychologist. Sitting with people through real fear, because a changing tech stack can feel like a threat to the work they have built their careers on.
That is the part the job descriptions miss.
@garrytan Loving /office-hours a few “eureka” moments that I’m using to test out a different approach to GTM this summer. If successful, see you in the Fall.
@gregisenberg@timyoung I worked for one. Tried to sound the alarm and make changes but it was not my strategy decision to make. Hence my writing in past tense.
Happy 9 month quit-versary to me!
We're subletting space (desks + a private room) in our office in FiDi. Right on the best block in the city — a crosswalk away from @UseCorgi's cafe. DM if interested.
I grew up a math nerd, not a reader. As an adult, I’ve leaned on self-help: money, motivation, etc.
Now with AI, the programmatic side is incredible. But the creative output? Everything looks the same.
So I’m reading fantasy. Hoping better stories in my head means better prompts out of my hands.
Everyone’s got FOBO. Fear Of Becoming Obsolete.
I prescribe TACO. Take Action, Create Opportunities.
Pick a dumb idea. Run it through every chatbot. Vibe code it in 3 tools (mix non-technical + technical). Ship nothing. Learn everything.
Happy Taco Tuesday 🌮
PSA: If you use an AI note-taker, read and refine the notes before you send them.
If all someone gets is the platform's automated email, it feels like you didn't listen.
Plus, there are nuances you caught (if you were paying attention) that the AI didn't.
Cherry on top: take some notes by hand. It helps with active listening and looks good in front of prospects and clients.
@omooretweets Building this for hospitality. Where you go next comes from the bartenders, chefs, and operators who already know, not strangers’ reviews.
Everything else gets optimized. Experiences stay human-led.
FWIW we’re both children of divorce too, and family never split even when our parents did. So some of what works for us:
- share similar values and commit to them (for us, family first, no questions asked)
- know that what makes you happy may not be what makes them happy (love languages anyone?). Learn to make them happy based on that.
- same applies to needs in distress. They may be different. Respect them.
- for big decisions, separate emotions and stick to data (spreadsheets are your therapists, really)
- find something that makes you both happy and enjoy time together (for us, food and drinks)
- learn to communicate your needs. Feedback is love (this I learned from my husband)
The barback at the best bar in town tonight may own the hottest room in the city in ten years.
As guests, as brands, we haven’t seen them yet.
What if we bet on them now?
A great bar lead spots a barback years before any title catches up. Who handles a slammed Friday at 1am. Who shows up early. Who asks the right question after close.
Just did similar math but in reverse.
Created a deck in Claude Design in under 5 minutes, then calculated what a software consulting firm would charge:
- 3 resources (PM, Business Analyst, Enterprise Architect) collaborating
- part-time for 2 days (3 x 4 x 2) at ~$200/hr
- $4,800 total
No follow-ups on branding or scope. No chasing. And the deck becomes a value-add instead of a line item on the invoice.
This is how AI-native agencies outperform incumbents.
