As a customs broker I do see a tangible benefit of Brexit. In much the same way a plague of rats on the entire country would be of benefit to the pest control industry.
@nannycrin @vivamjm @RayMcCord @t_k9@CaptainSwing666@MrDavidCatt1@KingLucythe1st@Chevaliereducep Oh Man, I feel your pain. Not brexit related but I once had an ยฃ80,000 pound demurrage, legal & translation bill in Istanbul because a forwarder refused to take my advice and didn't remove 1.1D labels from empty boxes. Obviously passed it on. +15%
@vivamjm @RayMcCord @t_k9@CaptainSwing666@MrDavidCatt1 @nannycrin @KingLucythe1st@Chevaliereducep An example. If your broker hasn't specified PVA, despite your instruction, you now have to pay the VAT up front. That's 20% and a huge hit to cashflow. Your goods are now stuck unless you pay. Demurrage, quay rent, oh and the shut down of a production line.
@longitude0 An ethical EU manufacturer would use IPR to claim back the duty on goods then exported from the EU. However, it's a costly exercise even when duty is reclaimed. I certainly wouldn't rely on many marquee brands to pass those "rebates" on.
@longitude0@vivamjm@CaptainSwing666@MrDavidCatt1 @nannycrin @Chevaliereducep I don't know enough about trade to comment. However, buying goods made in the EU from components made in CN/IN etc, may fall foul of double duty due to RoO. ie. Raw materials incur duty at import in EU and unless they can satisfy RoO for export, will be subject to UK duty.
@vivamjm@longitude0@CaptainSwing666@MrDavidCatt1 @nannycrin @Chevaliereducep For sure. Basic, cheap (fast fashion) type clothes won't be noticeably affected by brexit. Premium European marques on the other hand have already become more expensive (unless they're manufactured in the UK) due to customs and RoO.
@longitude0@vivamjm@CaptainSwing666@MrDavidCatt1 @nannycrin @Chevaliereducep We always have & will be reliant on imports for cotton and synthetic fibres, CN & IN utterly dominate those markets. Where those are turned into clothes (CN, IN, BD, TW, ID etc) supply won't be affected outside of global material/shipping costs.
@alison_pannell@vivamjm When can I expect the EU Trade Police to come knocking? After all, I facilitated the movement of this system from the UK to Azerbaijan the other year.
@vivamjm@Frankfurterblue We haven't? Why've I been knocking me pipe out these last four years ensuring 100's of 1000's of declarations get completed on time? I must look a right fool to the 1000's of customers I've spent hours with explaining what they need to do and it turns out we never left!
@omminc@vivamjm Sadly, he's not. He's well versed enough in propaganda and disinformation to advance his own means. He's just smart enough to know how to screw over the gullible.
