Police K-9s put themselves in harm’s way to protect our officers and our communities.

This week, our office announced federal charges against a convicted felon accused of possessing a firearm and shooting Fort Lauderdale Police Department K-9 Appie during a pursuit.

I’m grateful for Appie’s service and for the courage and professionalism of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, ATF, and all of our law enforcement partners who work every day to keep South Florida safe.
As always, an indictment is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Here's the first-person view moment of the unsealing of the indictment against Raul Castro for ordering the murder of four Americans engaging in humanitarian flight operations over international waters.

I was seated immediately behind the families. I spoke to some of them. I cried with one of them.

Thirty years of delayed justice for their murdered loved ones.

Thirty years stained by grief and loss.

Thirty years where my own nation did not do the right thing by those brave men and their families.
