We remember on our #Journalists_Altar two Fleet Street veterans: Chris Boffey – journalist and news editor, who wrote for and edited a wide range of newspapers; and James Mossop – sportswriter, who spent three decades at the Sunday Express.
We pray for them, their families, friends and colleagues.
May they rest in peace; and rise in glory.

Their memorial plaques read:
We remember Chris Boffey, journalist, who has died aged 74.
Born in Manchester, Boffey's journalism career began regionally but he soon arrived in Fleet Street, working his way through jobs on The Sun, Today and the Sunday Times before joining the Sunday Telegraph as chief reporter then news editor. He spent two years away from the papers as media adviser to Labour's education secretary before returning to join the Observer then the Guardian.
In his 40 years of journalism he claimed he had been "threatened, shot at, firebombed, sued, asked to spy, investigated by M15 and taken the occasional drink" as he covered stories from the The Troubles and the Gulf War, to World Cups and Olympic games, and investigated gangsters, pop stars and killers. He was unflappable, cheery, much-liked and respected by colleagues and helped and inspired young journalists. Active in retirement, he continued to write and chaired the @JournoCharity.
==============================
We remember James Mossop, sports journalist, who has died aged 89.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness and known to his colleagues as Jim, his long career in journalism began on the North West Evening Mail, before rising to become Chief Sportswriter at the Sunday Express, where he served for three decades under the editorship of John Junor.
Latterly he was a respected sports feature writer at
the Sunday Telegraph. The enviable list of sporting events he covered included ten football World Cups, eight Olympic games, and many boxing world title fights, golf majors and Formula One races.
Mossop was twice commended at the British Press Awards and was the Sports Journalists' Association's Olympic Writer of the Year in 1992. He also served as Chairman of the Football Writers' Association @theofficialfwa. He was kind to his colleagues, a keen wordsmith and a man of style.
@OllieHolt22@GrahamSpiers Thank you Ollie for your kind words. You will probably know that Corrie was an all time favourite of his. 😉 Never lost his northern roots. 🥰
@ewenmurray77 Thank you. This is Jim’s daughter. Sandra passed away on 13th January. Fortunately, Dad never retained the info so was happy thinking she was still around. ❤️
SAD NEWS ....
Learning the passing of James 'Jim' Mossop, famed English-born sports journalist who covered golf for the Sunday Express & Sunday Telegraph.
A highly respected colleague & fellow @AGWgolfwriters member who was such a down-to-earth friend to so many.
