Filmed yesterday at Springs Shelter. The man is Daniel, 47. Came to "just look." Spent 20 minutes with a dog named Murphy. Three-year-old mixed breed. Returned twice for "clinginess." Visit ended.
Daniel stood up to leave. Murphy panicked. Didn't bark. Didn't bite. Jumped into Daniel's arms. Like a toddler. Wrapped his legs around Daniel's torso.
Pressed his face into Daniel's neck. Then went completely rigid. Frozen. Daniel tried to put him down. Murphy's grip tightened. Claws digging into Daniel's shirt. Staff watched. Nobody moved. Daniel said: "I can't just leave him like this." Carried Murphy to the tront desk. Signed adoption papers while Murphy was still wrapped around him. Shelter director told us: "Murphy wasn't being aggressive. He was holding on like someone who's been dropped too many times. Daniel couldn't put him down because Murphy wouldn't let go. And Daniel couldn't leave someone who needed him that desperately." Sometimes a dog doesn't beg. They just refuse to

🚨 6 full days since we found him screaming in agony in an alley way and Mr Bear is still alive.

🏥 I thought we lost him a couple of times In the last 72 hours. He was really struggling to hang on.

🩸 We now know that it is leptospirosis that ravaged his body. It’s a disease passed on by rats and stagnant water.

🤒 His extreme pain is being managed and he has IV drips and all the meds he needs. He was puking, diarrhea and severe life threatening anemia all weekend. I don’t really know how he held on.

🥘 Last night and today he is back eating and drinking. It’s a tiny step but we think he might be 10% better. Still critical and he could slip away very easily but we all have some hope just looking at him today.

👁️ For the first time he has some clarity in his eyes. They are relaxing as he knows he is safe.

🛌 At the moment his best friend is sleep and his medicines.

I don’t know how this story ends and it’s still a long shot we save him as he hasn’t even been able to move in 6 days. But if you told me Bear would be alive today and eating tiny bits of poached chicken I would have bitten your arm off for that outcome just 2 days ago.
