Jay-Z is worth $2.5 billion. He says if a cousin asks for $4,800 and promises to turn it into $2 million, the answer is no.
The cousin isn't real, though. Jay-Z made him up and acted him out for Kevin Hart.
In the video below, Jay-Z talks about how money can come between friends, then plays out the Thanksgiving scene: you go home for some peace of mind, and a cousin in your grandma's living room has "a play."
His line: "Life isn't like that. Money isn't free and no one's giving out opportunities."
The cousin's comeback: "Oh, you don't believe in my dreams."
The episode aired on Peacock in July 2022. Then on September 30, 2023, a repost on X captioned "I'll NEVER get over a billionaire saying some bulls**t like this!" passed 35 million views. A top reply: "Jay Z has $2.5bn, his cousin asked for $4,800 and he said no."
Jay-Z never names a real cousin, and I couldn't find any response from him.
Cheap, or a fair way to turn down a pitch?
