Zimbabwe players getting contracts to play domestic cricket in Pakistan is progress but development doesn’t happen on the bench.
Ryan Burl has played 1 game.
Brian Bennett hasn’t played at all in 4.
For someone like Bennett, you can at least argue exposure, being around top players in the Pakistan Super League, learning environments, dressing-room standards—that still adds value early in his career.
But for Burl? That argument fades.
He’s not a prospect—he’s a player whose been in the circuit long enough and needs game time, not observation. Sitting him out doesn’t develop him, it just wastes a resource.
And it raises a bigger question:
Are Zimbabwe players still not trusted enough in these leagues?
Because the issue doesn’t look like talent—it looks like hesitation. They’re good enough to be signed, but not trusted enough to be played.
respect such decisions, use the time for genuine reflection and improvement, and build a culture of accountability.
Discipline helps the team grow stronger. Fans should back professionalism over excuses. #ZimCricket#Accountability
Discipline should never be confused with skin colour and should be taken at face value. Nick Welch’s punishment is not something out of the blue. Zimbabwe Cricket has consistently taken disciplinary action when standards are breached.
Here are a few examples of other players
and ordered to pay for repairs after damaging the opposition dressing room door in frustration following an lbw decision.
These cases show ZC applies consequences across different players. Rules are rules. Instead of deflection or playing the race card, it’s time for players to
It now appears there may be far more to the Nick Welch saga than the dressing-room door incident that initially emerged.
If allegations that Welch threatened a Logan Cup match are substantiated, then a four-match suspension and omission from Zimbabwe’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh could be viewed as a remarkably lenient outcome.
The integrity of the game must remain non-negotiable. Cricket cannot function if players, officials or participants are subjected to threats, intimidation or any form of violence.
Let me be absolutely clear: there is no place for violence within Zimbabwean cricket under any circumstances. If these allegations are proven to be true, they represent conduct that strikes at the very foundations of the sport and must be treated with the utmost seriousness.
Further to the @ZimCricketPod scoop this today I can confirm that Nick Welch indeed will not be selected for Zimbabwe’s upcoming test series vs Bangladesh.
I am told that the Zimbabwe and Mountaineers batsman was sanctioned following an incident during a Logan Cup match at Kwekwe Sports Club on 4 February 2026. After being adjudged lbw on day two of the fixture, Welch left the field and damaged the away team’s dressing room door.
He later appeared before the match referee, where disciplinary proceedings were instituted. Welch was fined US$100 and ordered to cover the cost of replacing the damaged door.
The suspension rules him out of domestic action and leaves him unavailable for consideration for Zimbabwe’s forthcoming Test assignment against Bangladesh.
Congratulations to Andy Flower on guiding RCB to back-to-back IPL titles! 🏆🏆
As a Zimbabwean, seeing one of our own succeed at the highest level of world cricket is a source of immense pride. His achievements show what Zimbabwean talent can accomplish on the global stage.

The Victoria Falls stadium is coming together beautifully, but the real question is: “who is it actually for?”
Vic Falls has a population of just 35,000 and runs on tourism, not sport. Is this venue mainly built to boost tourism? A scenic neutral ground for international matches while fans enjoy a holiday destination?
Will we see a new generation of passionate local cricket fans emerge from Victoria Falls? Or is it a strong decision on paper that only time will prove?
Either way — development is always welcome.
