Cameroonian billionaire Baba Ahmadou Danpullo is reportedly preparing to invest about 500 billion FCFA in the creation of a private airline and two dedicated airports in Yaoundé and Douala.

The proposed carrier, Danpullo Air Line, would initially connect Cameroon’s ten regions before expanding services to major cities across the six-member Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC.

The planned investment represents about 92% of Danpullo’s estimated 547 billion FCFA fortune, making it one of the largest privately financed aviation projects ever proposed by an African entrepreneur. Funding is expected to combine his personal capital with money from private investors and international lenders.

Reports indicate that construction of the proposed Yaoundé airport could begin in September 2026, with commercial airline operations targeted for 2030.

The project is expected to address limited domestic and regional air connectivity and offer an alternative to Cameroon’s state-owned airline, Camair-Co, which has faced persistent financial, fleet and operational difficulties.

However, the ambitious project would still require major regulatory, environmental, safety and aviation approvals. Cameroonian authorities have not publicly announced that the airline or proposed airports have received the necessary licences.
