The quantum-computing threat to crypto is back in the headlines, one global investment firm has even dropped Bitcoin from its recommendations over it. So how worried should institutions actually be?
Our view: take it seriously, don't panic.
The real exposure isn't Bitcoin's SHA-256 mining, it's ECDSA, the signature scheme protecting wallets. And the gap is still vast: the latest milestone broke a 15-bit key on public quantum hardware, while Bitcoin uses 256-bit keys. A genuine break is years, not months, away.
The risk the market under-models isn't the attack vector, it's the response. Rushing a protocol change to "quantum-proof" a network can introduce its own second- and third-order failures. The building blocks already exist: NIST-approved post-quantum standards, and live proposals like a quantum-resistant soft fork with a phased sunset of legacy signatures.
For institutions, the takeaway is simple: this is a security-architecture and governance question, not a reason to exit the asset class. The firms that treat custody and cryptographic resilience as core infrastructure, not afterthoughts, will navigate the transition calmly.

@Vanamonde1@cryptomanran Let them laugh. I am convinced it has greater resolve than most projects and will be an important ecosystem in the future. It's just not flashy and crypto media and speculators have regurgitated the same mantras over and over again not even following the current events on chain.
@cardano_whale@benjamincowen Ok this is not adding anything but seeing you two have an argument..out of all crypto twitter accounts I follow, really weirded me out.
@Trader_Jibon Remember, first time in 13 years different monetary climate. We don't know how it'll behave, we don't know! My bet is it goes as low as any equity in the next 1-2 years. FED never pivoted after mere months.
@AnVuong04204258 @Trader_Jibon Not sure about how much the war plays into it. To me that's just the mainstream media's narrative. What's more easy to graps is the change of monetary environment and since the FED has only just started with their interest rate hikes I'm unsure any bear market rally now matters.
@cryptorecruitr We've just barely retraced to the 38,2% fibs lvl π and people already asking you to cover it? People got no nerves for the long run...
