7. MBS is using Salma as one of his examples to scare others into silence.

6. On August 8, Salma’s sentence was increased to 34 years.

The Saudi Court (in reality, MBS) said she was helping to disturb public order by elevating Twitter accounts of women’s rights activists, specifically by “following accounts on social media and retweeting them.”

5. All Salma is accused of doing is retweeting and tweeting.

The topic of her tweets and retweets?

Women's rights. That's it.

But to a megalomaniac like MBS, any criticism is considered terrorism and a threat to his power.

4. In March of this year, after being held in a Saudi jail for over 280 days, Salma was sentenced to six years in prison for “supporting terrorism, disrupting order, and the disturbance of public security.”

3. Days before she was set to return to the UK, Salma was arrested by the Saudi Presidency of State Security which is an intelligence agency controlled by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman (MBS).

This agency cracks down on dissent and designates criticism as terrorism.

2. Salma al-Shehab is a Saudi citizen and was a Ph.D. student at the University of Leeds in the UK.

Salma is also a mom of two sons, ages four and six.

In December 2020, Salma went home to Saudi Arabia to visit her family for winter break...she hasn't returned to the UK since.
