Edinburgh Writing Group based at Fountainbridge Library. Meets Wednesday 6pm. New members welcome. If you write and want encouragement, join our group;
Good luck to everyone who is over a week into #NaNoWriMo, listening to one of our group talk about their progress and the benefits they were getting out of it, was very inspiring.
Keep writing
Life constantly gets in the way of your writing without a real writing schedule for your story. #amwriting#writerslife Don't worry. Keep at it. .. #author#writing
Plots hinge on the story details for you and your readers. As a writer, don't skimp on the story details for yourself while writing, even if you don't show them all to the reader, they might become important to your writing your story later on. #amwriting#amediting#writing
#Thursdaythoughts - when plotting novels or short story, using who, what, where, when, why and how questions in regards to your characters' motivations. Understanding the motivation of your characters can help develop them into 3 dimensional people that leap off the page.
50 minutes before the group starts and just found this quote for Terry Pratchett: "The first draft is just you telling yourself the story." A wonderful quote from a fantastic author, who will always be missed.
#MondayMotivation - it's an embarassing moment when as a writer you don't have pen on you.
"A writer without a pen would be like a duck without water!" Donovan
#Editingtips Are you strong enough to murder off characters, who are dragging their feet when you do your first edit?
Remember everyone in your plot needs to earn their place. Don't let them linger & if your character doesn't fit in one story, create a new one.

"I don't know much about creative writing programs. But they're not telling the truth if they don't teach, one, that writing is hard work, and, two, that you have to give up a great deal of life, your personal life, to be a writer." Doris Lessing
#MondayMotivation - remember sometimes Failure in love can teach us the most valuable lessons in life.
"Failure has been my best friend as a writer. It tests you, to see if you have what it takes to see it through." Markus Zusak
#Editing Wednesday.
Tip 2: Don't be frightened to cull characters on a second edit as they may belong in a different story all together and keeping them in the wrong story is stopping them from growing.
#MondayMotivation - Hope this week brings you an unexpected twist.
“Every true love and friendship is a story of unexpected transformation. If we are the same person before and after we loved, that means we haven't loved enough.”
— Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules Of Love
#SelfCareSunday - Although we are never without a notepad, sometimes taking time away from the desk and looking at the sky can help keep the inspirational going. Remember to look up.
Other than grammar rules. Throw away the writing rules that don't make sense to you. We all write differently. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses in our writing, but that's what makes us who we are in what we write. Write like you. -Wrtr #amwriting#Writing
#Editing Wednesday.
Tip 1: Words can be red hot when they reach the page for the first time. When you come to edit these words, leave enough time for the words to cool down.

"I have a strong work ethic, yet I'm incredibly lazy as well. The problem with being a writer is that everything you do can be called research. Sitting in the pub is research. Reading the newspaper can be research." Ian Rankin
Happy #BrewMonday. Today is sometimes marketed as blue monday, but with Samaritans' help let's claim it as the day for a cuppa and check in with each other.
Like C.S.Lewis said 'You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."
Most authors are people just like us, working hard writing. People with their regular lives getting in the way of their writing. 🙂☕ #amwriting#amediting#Writing. NoGiveUp.
Writing early in the morning or late at night as an author, may help you remove your inner rejection voices when you write. Learn to sneak up on your writing brain. #amwriting#Writing.
