I went to my Grandma’s funeral today. The hardest thing I’ve done is say goodbye to my Glynis Powell in hospital. Feisty, clever, a true believer in a woman’s power. Even if she didn’t realise it, she was my first feminist role model. But she was also just really caring. Love you
I've taught journalism and mentored many young women journalists. One of the toughest "rules" polite, well-behaved women MUST break if they have a hope of succeeding in hard news journalism? Learn to ask tough questions and handle the heated/rageful replies. You can't be fragile!
So odd : @tntsports we are hearing your line tests and discussions about what you are going to say and everything. Bit of a shambles. Oh and now the sound is off entirely. It’s not that difficult to pre-fade.
This is absolutely the case. Having lived and worked in both the US and U.K., it’s amazing how differently people communicate albeit in the same language at work.
british understatement is unique and i love it. if you work with brits you absolutely have to understand the translation:
"this is probably not ideal" -> this is on fire
"it might be worth reconsidering" -> stop, do not ship this
"i have some minor concerns" -> i have been thinking about nothing else for four days
once you crack the code the feedback is actually some of the most precise communication you will encounter.
Well well Fonseca. Amazing performance. Ridiculously impressive. Can he challenge the top two? And good on @DjokerNole - he’s got the form and the heart for the next battle no doubt. Also lovely at the net after losing. Something he obviously hasn’t done much. On to Wimbledon.
And it was a hard fought 5 set win. Great match. Atmane just looked gassed. Though kokkinakis did, he played solid and some great risk taking. He stayed ages afterwards signing autographs. Also Great mental strength acknowledging the very roudy local crowd but was not put off.
The only issue with @TennisPodcast is that I love them and then for a grand slam, there’s loads of episodes and it means I will then have to cope with serious withdrawal pangs at the end of a grand slam. Thanks you lot
The reality is the BBC was and remains the only broadcaster struggling to remain free of any of these influencers. To say it has been “captured” when the bulk of the media have been in captivity for years misses the point. The Beeb suffers from a) being so transparent and an “easy target” and b) Former chiefs who happily conspire with enemies to harm it. Note Tim Davie has pledged not to do this.
The article in Unherd is all very well, but somebody needs to point out that Unherd is owned by the same guy who owns @GBNews and the writer has a slot on Lachlan Murdoch’s Times Radio. Frankly, the BBC needs to get better at pointing these things out. This is not to say there is not merit in the piece nor is it to question Rob’s journalism, especially on the tortured trans issue which caused pain to many media orgs as they learned how to navigate it with compassion, a characteristic lacking almost everywhere else.
This women's Rome final between Gauff and Svitolina is FANTASTIC! Such a high level of tennis from both women. It's a shame to again see the stands so empty. These talented athletes deserve much better. 🤷💕 #IBI26#ItalianOpen
There are many reasons to respect @JustinOnWeb but him not drawing attention to the Chief Sec misnaming him "Nick" (at least twice) is a typical one. Other "talent" would draw attention to the error but interview over ego for JW ❤️
For anyone aged between 18 and 24 with an interest in tennis and journalism, entries are now open for the Mike Dickson Award.
The winner will have the chance to be a member of the media for a day at Wimbledon & The Queen's Club.

whenever you tell someone at a party you’re a journalist and they clamor to clarify that they’re “off the record” it’s like. you just told me a story about your cat throwing up after eating funfetti cake batter. should we call the new york times? should we invite bella hadid ?
