Factories are opening across the US to make clean energy technologies. Much of this investment has gone to the swing states that will likely decide the 2024 election. What's that mean for these states' economies and politics?
I went to Georgia to find out https://t.co/m6SxpRqqMz
If you're in DC on June 4, join me for this live interview with @RepBuddyCarter on the future of American energy manufacturing, and how to meet soaring demand for electricity to fuel the economy.
Of course we'll have A+ networking before/after, lots of @CanaryMediaInc fans in DC
📣 We're happy to announce @RepBuddyCarter (GA-01) – vice chair of the @climate_caucus – will join Canary Live D.C. on June 4 for a fireside chat with @JulianSpector.

Hey #Austin, we've got a jam-packed energy event coming up @UTAustin Tues 1/28.
Join me, @joshdr83@douglewinenergy and Dr. Emily Beagle to unpack the year ahead in energy for Texas and the nation.
@drvolts will be chatting with @austinenergy leaders on clean energy outlook
Excited to be joining @drvolts & @JulianSpector along w/@douglewinenergy, & Dr. Emily Beagle @ the @TheLBJSchool@UTAustin to talk energy at the Canary Media x Volts at UT-Austin event on January 28! See free registration link below if you can make it!

Now a bunch of projects that don't share Moss Landing's risk profile will no doubt have to answer for this failure. Battery projects have in fact gotten much safer and more sophisticated since then, but that nuance will be hard to convey when the flames leap this high.
The energy storage beat kicks off 2025 with a bang: Moss Landing, the biggest grid battery built thus far, burst into flame (again) Thursday night and has kept burning.
My story here @CanaryMediaInc https://t.co/NBpvEPSbnp
The key with batteries is to limit the damage that can happen if one does catch fire. That's what containers do (and the ascendant LFP chemistry is way less fireprone than the NMC at issue here). In a building, space or barriers are key.
The November election will determine the balance of power in both states as they stare down proposals for lots of new fossil gas plants to shore up supply for booming data centers and domestic manufacturing. Crucial time for carbon emissions and customer bill impacts
Energy on the ballot: 10 states elect their super-powerful utility regulators, so I dug into the races with the most potential to shape the clean energy transition. Louisiana and Arizona are top of the list https://t.co/bT3FC3jUbC
Louisiana is losing a swing vote who helped usher in the biggest energy efficiency update in years.
Arizona has swung from a commission that paused gas plant construction and scoped out 100% clean energy plans to one that scraps a weak 15 yr old renewable standard
Ten states elect their public utility commissions, which make big decisions about energy. This November, the stakes are high, especially in Arizona and Louisiana. Reporting by @julianspector: https://t.co/uCTdwuJGak
.@JulianSpector visits the Keystone State "to see if the idea of a clean energy future is resonating with Pennsylvanians and how that transition is starting to materialize in a place where coal, oil, and gas have reigned supreme since the 1800s." https://t.co/i9kAALysiG
What we're reading: "If MI's bet on new clean energy manufacturing works out, it would offer the clearest test case nationally of the Biden-Harris strategy to make clean energy the engine of manufacturing revival," @JulianSpector writes in @CanaryMediaInc.

There's a ton of stories about how Pittsburgh used to be. Now we've got a few new ones about what it could become today.
Of course, the policies underlying this transition are on the ballot in November. So Pennsylvanians will have an outsize say in whether this shift continues
🧵Dems and GOP agree on 1 thing: #Pennsylvania is the key to the election. And voters in this energy-rich state want to know what @KamalaHarris and @realDonaldTrump will do for their economy.
I went to PA to see how it's starting to shift to low carbon https://t.co/y4rp5FsE7v
Both battery techs are new and have a lot to prove. But they and JM Steel show how the booming demand for clean energy is breathing new life into Pennsylvania factory towns that have suffered from decades of industrial decline.
