Hello! I wanted to share that a couple of my wonderful fellow GC students at BUGCP started a support group for current Black GC students ☺️ If you are interested, please use the QR code 🤎#GeneChat#BlackInGenetics
Without rehashing details, the chasm between groups of GCs is clearly widening. It’s “us vs them”. It’s hushed tones in corners and furtive glances. It’s hearing a phrase and taking completely opposite meanings from it. It’s transactional allyship. It’s performative allyship.
I met with a patient who was a brown woman, like me. She gave me a look of acknowledgment and relief when I told her I’d be leading the appointment. Representation matters.
I love talking to educators and genetic counselors who actually care about serving indigenous communities. It’s the least we can do. I have a lot to learn.

I only just started this book, but so far she has shown an important perspective that is often suppressed.
