❓The solution to the LA filming problem lies with the State, not with the City, because operating any business here, be it a movie studio or a fast food joint, is prohibitively expensive.
📈High energy prices because of CA’s energy policies are front-and-center in the decline of studio productions but are strangely overlooked:
🚛 The diesel gas used by the trucks to get sets and supplies on location costs 47% more compared to Georgia diesel based on today’s AAA fuel prices.
💡The diesel generators that power the lights on location shoots will be similarly more expensive to operate compared to other states.
🎥The filming studios require lights to record and AC to keep those spaces cool with all of the bright lights. CA’s average retail electricity price is 137% higher than Georgia’s average price according to the US Energy Information Administration.
⛽️ Workers in CA expect higher pay because the regular gas that they put in their cars is 57% more expensive than gas in Georgia according to AAA stats.
🛒Basic groceries are more expensive in CA because the transport costs from the expensive diesel fuel for the trucks is folded in to the prices and passed on to the consumer.
Fighting climate change sounds great on paper until it starts leading to layoffs and fleeing businesses.
🫁 2015 was the year when asthma hospitalization rates in CA finally remained constant after steady declines due to improved air quality. Take it from me…I’m a lung physician and public health researcher. So any further environmental policies passed after 2015 that increased our costs of daily living did NOT result in improved health outcomes, which should really be our focus.
So if CA simply rolled back all of the energy policies since 2015, it would lower the price of fuel/energy, which would improve the profit margins for businesses, and lead to widespread DECREASES in the costs of basic staples and everyday utilities.
Also: if laid-off workers are paying far less for gas and utilities and groceries, they would accept lower wages simply to be able to work again, which would make it even more attractive for businesses to start moving back here.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is the solution to this problem.

The Labour government’s first policy was cutting the winter fuel allowance from millions of pensioners. An insanely stupid and cruel thing to do. They destroyed trust straight out of the traps.
