I have no idea what school will be like (or if it will happen at all) on Friday or into next week. As a parent, that's difficult.
But make no mistake.
This is not CUPE's fault. This is on the Ford government.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Ford's MPPs just defeated our motion to cap class sizes at 15. Their stubborn refusal to act puts the safety of our school communities, and our ability to manage this pandemic, at risk.
Thanks to all who acted quickly to call their MPPs.
We won't give up. #OntEd#onpoli
This is a real classroom with 25 people sitting at desks, they are less than a metre apart and 8 people are missing - 33 students are scheduled to be in this room! This is NOT social distancing! This is not putting our students first!!!!!! #UnsafeSeptemberON@fordnation@Sflecce
The Premier continues to ignore what teachers we’re doing for months while schools were closed. They did “step up” from day one of school closures and they have always stepped up! @ETFOeducators#onted
While we strongly advocate for smaller classes to ensure physical distancing, #ETFO educators are preparing for the new school year. Educators are professionals and we will do our very best to meet student needs and its time the govt does its part for a #SafeSeptember
Dear Mr. Leece and Mr. Ford, this is why 30 in any classroom won’t work. This is my 94 year old mother in law. She is in my bubble. When I go back to school in September, she can’t be in my bubble anymore. @Sflecce@fordnation@ONTSpecialNeeds@acampbell99
The Premier just said that to fight off covid-19 we all need to continue to follow the Golden Rules:
-2 meter physical distancing;
-Stay away from large gatherings;
-Wear a mask.
Agreed. Now implement the Golden Rules in schools!
@ETFOeducators#onpoli#onted
In case you missed this we are recirculating it. Dear Mr. Ford and Mr.Lecce - even Sick Kids President doesn't support your plan. Ontario public schools need smaller class size to implement physical distancing! Fix the flawed #onted plan now. #SafeSeptember#onpoli
I called the Premier’s office and voiced my concerns today. The very polite lady at the other end said today has been a particularly busy day with phone calls to the Premier’s office re: back to school . Let’s all flood his phone line and demand a #SafeSeptember !
Sick Kids President Ronald Cohn will not back a back-to-school plan that does not ensure proper physical distancing between students. If “physical distancing will be compromised by the number of children ... we cannot and will not will not support this.” https://t.co/MgLSLrJIU0
Finally, @SickKidsNews digging out of hole it created. Great! 15 kids max in elementary with 2 metres distance not 1 = hiring many more teachers & creating more ventilated space.This requires proper $. So @fordnation stop blathering you have listened to the medical experts!
Unfortunately today's media conference with the Minister of Ed felt like a rinse and repeat of the same old messaging.
What students and parents need is less talk and concrete action.
Schools need a real plan for a #SafeSeptember, it requires smaller classes. #onpoli
Today, when talking about kindergarten classes, Doug Ford said that there are two teachers in the class. No Premier there are not two teachers in a kindergarten class! There is a teacher and a Designated Early Childhood Educator! @ETFOeducators
You need to stay home. And so do your friends and family members. Help spread the word with your own video - and tag your friends to remind them to stay home too. And together, we can #PlankTheCurve. @MichaelBuble and @VancityReynolds - can you help? #StayAtHomeSaveLives
