Weekend check-in for authors.
Are you...
Actually writing?
Convincing yourself you're "researching"?
Editing the same chapter for the 47th time?
Or pretending your manuscript doesn't exist until Monday? 😂
Can we all agree that readers always seem to notice the ONE thing you never expected?
You spend hours perfecting one scene...
...and the comments are all about a side character who appeared for three pages.
Can we all agree that the first chapters are the hardest?
They're supposed to introduce the world, make us care about the characters, create just enough mystery, and somehow convince a stranger to keep turning the pages.
Writers, I need to know 😂
Is there always that ONE chapter that refuses to cooperate?
The one you rewrite...
then rewrite again...
then somehow end up changing at 2 AM because "something feels off." 😭
What's the chapter giving you the most trouble?
@hollaaaanov Okay, a spy fic already has my attention. I feel like those stories are so fun because there’s always room for surprises and “wait… what just happened?” moments. What’s the vibe of your story, more action, mystery, or character drama?
@StrayTheSloth Finding someone who can give honest feedback but also keep you motivated sounds like the dream. Writing can be such a lonely process sometimes, so having someone in your corner must make a big difference. What are you currently writing?
@ellameno That sounds really frustrating. I feel like readers and writers can sometimes have different ideas about what feedback means. Sharing an opinion is one thing, but trying to take over someone’s story is a completely different thing.
@intentus I think a lot of people underestimate how hard it can be to find the right people to give honest feedback, even when a story gets a lot of attention. Having readers and having beta readers who will actually sit down and share thoughts are two very different things.
@BlackHoodPress I’ve always found stories set around the Prohibition era fascinating because there’s so much tension, secrets, and history that can be woven into the story. I’d love to know more about the book. what inspired you to write a crime drama set in that time period?
@battyrowan Congratulations on finishing the first draft. That’s such a big milestone. Jayce’s chapter has me curious, what kind of story is Perfect Disaster?
@guhnv95181897 Congratulations, Finishing a first draft is a huge accomplishment, even if it leaves you exhausted. What kind of story have you been working on?
@NikkiMDoucet Going back to a novel after some time away can be such an interesting experience. You start seeing things you couldn't see while you were deep in the first draft. What kind of story are you rewriting?
@DebbiesStories Congratulations on finishing book #2. That must feel like a great milestone. I'm curious, what kind of story have you written this time?
