My latest @TIME@madebyhistory.
I’ve been doing this long enough to know one shouldn’t read the comments, but…🤷🏻♂️
I am a historian. I’m guided by the archives.
I’ve been rereading Trouillot for my grad seminar. And am grateful for his wisdom: “history is the fruit of power.”
FIU at AHA! What a joy to see FIU History alum Drs. Christopher Davis (Adelphi), Ricardo Pelegrin Taboada (Western Oregon), Micah Oelze (Adelphi), @Prof_Edwards (Univ. of Texas, El Paso), and Sven Kube (Coastal Carolina) at AHA 2025 in NYC!
@AHAhistorians
Stop whatever you’re doing and read @_sashiee’s piece in @madebyhistory in @TIME! She writes about the long history of Black resistance and community in The Bahamas’s Junkanoo.
Keep an 👁️ out for all she does. It’s 🔥!
Congrats Sasha!
Join Prof @JulioCapoJr and chief curator at @VizcayaMuseum, Helena Gomez, for a special program on the fascinating history of Paul Chalfin, Vizcaya’s chief visionary who lived openly gay in Miami in the early 1910s and 20s.

I appreciate so much of what he adds here. We discussed it in my public history grad seminar last night.
It’s just not a nice statue & it obviously doesn’t come close to reflecting his skill for the game or his work for the community.
Statues can come to life in many ways.
Thank you to the Historic Hampton House (@HistoricHampton) for hosting Dr. @JulioCapoJr's Public History graduate seminar. Special thanks to its Executive Director, Jacqui Colyer, for sharing so much of her knowledge & experience with us!
Thanks to @VizcayaMuseum and FIU Alum, Elgin Grey, for helping @JulioCapoJr’s Public History graduate seminar students explore the past… and Miami’s rich beauty.
