My exact sentiments about life are pondered here so eloquently with vigor and might. If I were so effective as my forebears, I too might reach the summit, come hell or high water.

James Gray is finally getting his just deserts with #PaperTiger. He’s always been the sophisticated side of the New Hollywood revival, while P.T. Anderson is its loud, politically overt counterpart. Subtext is key, not didacticism. Gray is our time’s William Friedkin.
“Paper Tiger” director James Gray says he doesn’t “want to preach” about politics while making the festival rounds for his latest film, starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller:
“All movies are political in one way or another, but I like movies that exist with subtext. I don’t want to preach to you. That’s a polemic. That’s for debate class. The reason we can watch some of those beautiful Hollywood movies from 1940 and still find them moving is because they weren’t trying to teach us a lesson. Not Sunday school. Art is not Sunday school.”

"Slowly, I realized realism in cinema is not the same as realism in life. Cinema has its own realism. The world in cinema is not the real world. It has been crafted. That makes cinema interesting. It's not real. It's closer to dreams. If you treat life as a dream, you can understand this."
