Today, the judgement has been issued in the case concerning the murders of Zaida Catalán from Sweden, Michael Sharp from the US and Betu Shintela from the DRC while working as UN experts and local interpreter in the DRC in 2017. It is hard to find words to describe these crimes, against people who only wanted to do good. Almost 10 years later, this is an important step for truth and justice for the victims and their families. Sweden has continuously raised with the Congolese authorities the importance of due process, where the right to a fair trial is respected and all available information and evidence is considered. Sweden strongly opposes the death penalty in all circumstances, without exception.

We reiterate our joint statement, now +2 signatories. The violence that erupted in Mogadishu is deeply concerning & we deplore the casualties. Somalis need peace, stability, progress. We call on political leaders on all sides to go back to dialogue and resolve disputes peacefully
.@UNTMIS_ is gravely concerned by the outbreak of fighting in Mogadishu last night and calls on all sides to demonstrate responsible leadership, cease hostilities and refrain from further actions that put civilian lives at risk while returning to dialogue in the interest of all Somalis.
UNTMIS and international partners have repeatedly warned, in our statements and stakeholder engagements, of the risk of repeating the crisis that arose in 2021 over differences regarding the electoral roadmap -- warnings that were unfortunately not heeded.
UNTMIS urges all Somali leaders to prioritise the national interest and resume the talks that ended on 15 May. Somalia's international partners stand ready to facilitate such a dialogue.
Conflicts are increasing while negotiated comprehensive peace settlements are declining.
“We have a responsibility to act. Mediation efforts, based on evidence and best practice, are more necessary than ever”
Ambassador @NicolaClase at today´s open debate on Peace Mediation.
Joint statement of the international community on the political situation in Somalia
The signatories* of this joint statement are concerned by the current situation in Somalia.
We call on all sides to resume dialogue as soon as possible, and to swiftly reach consensus on an election roadmap in the interest of the Somali people. The international community stands ready to assist in Somali-led talks, should it be requested.
In this delicate moment, we urge all Somali leaders to prioritise the national interest, and refrain from any actions that may lead to an escalation of tensions.

A niche, practical and, potentially, high-impact guide for those entrusted with the maintenance of int’l peace & security. I’m proud to have contributed to the chapter on “how to be the President of the Security Council”, incl. how to engage with the @UNPeacebuilding Commission.
Every year 5 countries join the #UNSC with limited time to master its practices.
The E10 Handbook, now online, offers a practical guide for elected members.
It captures experience and practice to strengthen the Council’s continuity and effectiveness.

Productive discussion with Sweden’s Special Envoy for Sudan Magnus Collett. We considered the next diplomatic steps as we push for peace in Sudan, acknowledged the success in securing the endorsement of 22 nations and organizations behind the vital Berlin principles, and highlighted the importance of ceasing external military support to the belligerents. We reviewed the humanitarian situation and talked about ways to improve conditions and address the most acute suffering as we advance the @POTUS priority of peace in Sudan.

South Sudan stands at a dangerous crossroads.
Conflict up. Hunger up. Displacement up. Attacks on aid workers up.
I saw it firsthand and felt the scale of this despair.
We need access, funding and respect for international humanitarian law.
