Het is zo vies dit hele box 3 debacle.

Politici die glashard liegen over wie het gaat raken. Economen die gedragseffecten ontkennen. Politieke partijen zoals de VVD die het steunen maar het over de verkiezingen willen tillen. Aanpassingen die zo klein zijn dat ze beledigend zijn.

En waarom? Om een paar miljard bij te kunnen tekenen in een spreadsheet. Een paar miljard die ze straks gaan weggooien aan klimaat, defensie, migratie, stikstof etc etc.

En het ergste is nog: ook dat is een papieren werkelijkheid. Ze zullen die miljarden nooit binnenkrijgen en juist een veelvoud aan inkomsten verliezen.

Maar wie dan leeft, wie dan zorgt?

We moeten de druk aanhouden. Word lid van een politieke partij die tegen is, email politici, blijf erover praten. Dit kán gewoon niet doorgaan.

What Elon Musk is doing is genuinely heroic.

He will win no friends in politics and will be ostracised by the current administration. But he is totally right.

We (the entire Western world) simply cannot go on pretending our way of life is sustainable.

Historically, countries build up surpluses in peace time and then go into debt to fight wars. We are going into more and more debt during peace time.

Clever economists will tell you this is sustainable. It is not. And someone has to do something about it.
