Iranian politician Romina Pourmokhtari:
“Pedophilia is legal under the Islamic Republic of Iran. They legalized child marriage with girls even younger than 13.
“We are trying to raise awareness, but Western feminists are completely ignoring us.”
This really resonates, highlighting the values of care, responsibility and compassion for each other. We try hard to encourage this ethos, but it still surprises us how many parents tell their children to ignore us as cleaning up and tidying away is not their job!
In Japan, children clean their own schools.
Every day. After lunch.
About twenty minutes.
Classrooms.
Hallways.
Toilets.
Not because the schools are too poor
to hire someone.
Because in 1947, this country decided
that cleaning your own space
is part of becoming a person.
The cleaning rag
is on the school supply list.
Right next to the pencils.
Egypt teaches it now.
So does Indonesia.
So does Mongolia.
Think about the last time
you watched a seven-year-old
mop a floor without complaining.
Japan does that
in every elementary school
in the country.
Not as punishment.
As education.

It has taken years of persistence, respectful challenge and work to build a space where providers, nursery leaders and Ofsted inspectors can sit together and have honest professional conversations about Early Years. Book now to attend the next London OBC!
📢 The London Ofsted Big Conversation is just 2 weeks away!
If you work in Early Years, this is a conversation you’ll want to be part of.

What better way to begin a podcast than with a conversation about kindness. Every now and then, someone walks into your professional world and reminds you why you care so deeply about Early Years. For me, one of those people is @SalasBalde.

Is giving a child unrestricted access to digital technology like handing them a vape?
For the latest episode of the Talking Early Years podcast, I spoke with @katypotts about what it really means to grow up surrounded by digital technology. https://t.co/Df2fQqaxzg
Interesting reflection on universities dumbing down and the unequal outcomes and big loan debts for the most vulnerable students. https://t.co/G88Pa0KeuT
I’ve just reviewed Observation Assessment Made Simple by Clare Devlin and it’s a timely reminder that observation sits at the heart of good pedagogy, not paperwork. Full review 👇

@antisemitism@ChadwickFocus Who knew community members were also doing such useful work. Social justice is about fairness, belonging, equity and giving people a voice. Locking it down by fear and bigotry is helpful to no one, especially our young children.
Tickets are now LIVE for our next London OBC meeting!
The new date will be the 27th May - mark your calendars and I look forward to seeing you there:

💡 Social justice can feel like a big, abstract idea. Something discussed in policy or politics. But in nurseries, it’s much simpler than that. I recently spoke with @SusanSantone to talk about why social justice belongs in the Early Years.

Got this from a friend this morning who also works in #earlyears. Sharing the positivity. #HappyMothersDay to all those loving, attentive mothers who nurture children and try hard to protect their right to an innocent and joyful childhood in this digitally demanding world.
@LEYFonline is part of a story on today’s BBC Breakfast exploring #AI in the Early Years. The programme highlighted a Cambridge study that raises important questions about how young children interact with AI, and the wider role this technology may play https://t.co/NxV0sCPeeL
It was wonderful to spend the afternoon at the @Booktrust Early Years Reading Rights Summit with @oliviabaileymp and fellow coalition members Early Years Aliiance and @LEYFonline, alongside so many brilliant organisations working to improve outcomes for young children.
