Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, has condemned Arab and Muslim inaction amid intensified Israeli settler invasions into the holy site in occupied Jerusalem.

Hundreds of Israeli settlers have entered the mosque compound under heavy police protection during the Jewish holiday season, performing religious rituals and prayers while Palestinian worshippers face restrictions on access.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has also participated in the incursions.

Sheikh Sabri warned that the invasions form part of wider efforts to change the historic status quo at Al-Aqsa and impose Israeli control over the holy site.

He called on Palestinians to maintain a strong presence at the mosque and confront Israeli plans targeting Islam’s third-holiest site.
