โFreedom is never truly inherited. It is remembered, protected, and passed on through the courage of those who value it.โ
On Friday, June 12, Jungle Fighters gathered at the Headquarters of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division for the simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony in commemoration of the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. Led by Assistant Division Commander for Reserve Force Development Colonel Virgilio Hamos Jr., the ceremony honored the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the Filipinos whose unwavering pursuit of freedom shaped the nation we know today.
During the ceremony, Col. Hamos read the messages of AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. and Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete. Both leaders emphasized that while Independence Day is a celebration of the nationโs hard-earned freedom, it is also a reminder of the continuing responsibility to uphold the values of sovereignty, patriotism, and service.
As soldiers rendered their salute to the flag, they reaffirmed their commitment to remain faithful to their sworn duty and to embody the Filipino spirit that stands firm in the face of challenges and places the welfare of the nation above all else.

The freedom we enjoy today was not freely given. It was earned through the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering love of country shown by generations of Filipinos who chose to stand and fight for a nation they hoped future generations would proudly call their own.
On Friday, June 12, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division Commander Major General Ramon Zagala joined government leaders, security sector representatives, and stakeholders during the Flag Raising Ceremony commemorating the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
Guided by this yearโs theme, โKalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,โ the ceremony served as a reflection on the nationโs journey and the enduring values that continue to shape its future.

Every military career is marked by milestones, victories, and sacrifices.
During the Retirement Ceremony of Brigadier General Erwin Alea on Wednesday, June 10, glasses were raised not merely in celebration, but in gratitude. For 39 years, he served alongside fellow soldiers through challenges and triumphs. In that brief moment of laughter and shared memories, rank gave way to friendship, and duty gave way to reflection.
The final toast was not a goodbye to the profession he loved, but a tribute to a journey well lived. It honored the battles fought, the victories earned, and the bonds forged through years of service. As the evening drew on, one truth remained certain: while Brigadier General Alea's time in uniform had reached its final chapter, the legacy he leaves in the hearts of the Jungle Fighters will endure long after the last glass was raised.

There comes a moment in every soldier's journey when the formations grow quiet, the orders fade into memory, and a lifetime of service is measured not by rank or medals, but by the lives touched along the way.
On Wednesday, June 10, Brigadier General Erwin Alea formally concluded 35 years of dedicated service to the nation during his Retirement Ceremony at the Headquarters of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division. From his early days as a young officer to his final assignment as Assistant Division Commander, his career was marked by steadfast leadership, unwavering commitment, and an enduring devotion to the profession of arms.
As he rendered his final salute in uniform, the ceremony became more than a farewell. It was a tribute to a life spent in service, a legacy built through decades of sacrifice and leadership, and a reminder that while a soldier may one day leave active duty, the example he leaves behind continues to march forward in those he once led.
"As I step away from the soldier's calling, I carry with me not only memories of battles fought and victories earned, but also the unbreakable bonds of camaraderie forged through years of service."

Some moments require no words.
As outgoing Assistant Division Commander Brigadier General Erwin Alea and incoming Acting Assistant Division Commander Colonel Eric Guevarra exchanged a handshake during the Change of Chief of Office Ceremony on Wednesday, June 10, the gesture symbolized more than a transition of responsibilities. It reflected mutual respect between two leaders united by a shared commitment to serving the soldiers and the mission of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division.
Standing between them was 2ID Commander Major General Ramon Zagala, witnessing a moment that every commander hopes to see, leadership passed on with dignity, trust, and confidence. While one chapter comes to a close and another begins, the mission of the Jungle Fighters remains unchanged, carried forward by leaders dedicated to the same purpose and guided by the same values.

In military tradition, the passing of a seal is more than a ceremonial act. It symbolizes the transfer of authority, responsibility, and trust from one leader to another.
During the Change of Chief of Office Ceremony of the Office of the Assistant Division Commander on Wednesday, June 10, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division Commander Major General Ramon Zagala formally handed the office seal to Colonel Eric Guevarra, signifying his assumption as the Acting Assistant Division Commander of the Command.
For every leader who receives the seal, it carries with it the expectations of those who came before and the confidence of those who will serve alongside him. As Colonel Guevarra accepts this symbol of office, he also accepts the responsibility of helping lead the Jungle Fighters in fulfilling their mission, caring for their soldiers, and upholding the values that define the Division.

While some may view UPLB students as critics of the military, these ROTC cadets chose a different path, one rooted in discipline, leadership, and service. On this field, a different reality unfolds as these students embrace the values of leadership, commitment, and patriotism through the Philippine Army ROTC Program.
During the activity, cadets were challenged through a series of inspections and evaluations that measured not only their military proficiency, but also their discipline, bearing, teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure.
Led by RAATI Chairman COL Virgilio C. Hamos Jr. and the Assistant Division Commander for Reserve Force Development (ADC for RFD), the activity reinforced a simple but enduring lesson: leadership is built through discipline, consistency, and service to others.

What if Mindoro is truly free, free from fear, conflict, and the barriers that hold communities back?
Captured during a visit to Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, this quiet moment reminds us of the possibilities that emerge when peace takes root.
A free Mindoro means safer communities, greater opportunities for families, and a brighter future for the next generation. It is a future where children can dream without fear, where communities can thrive, and where the islandโs natural beauty and rich culture can flourish.
Beyond today, there is still a beautiful world waiting for every Mindoreรฑo, a future built on hope, unity, and lasting peace.
