KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto met Captain Arjit Pande , Defence Advisor to the Indian High Commission in Nairobi, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening maritime and trade ties between Kenya and India.

Capt. Ruto said the discussions focused on enhancing maritime cooperation and expanding economic engagement between the two countries through the port sector.

The engagement comes as direct shipping links between East Africa and India continue to grow through the Port of Mombasa, reinforcing one of the oldest maritime trade corridors across the Indian Ocean.

For centuries, monsoon-driven sea routes connected the East African coast with ports in India, fostering enduring commercial and cultural ties that still shape trade today.

These connections are now being strengthened through new liner services, including a recently launched route operated by Turkish-based Akkon Lines under its East Africa Service (EAS).

The service provides a direct commercial link between East Africa and the Indian subcontinent and is expected to enhance cargo flows and deepen economic ties between the regions.

Assistant High Commissioner of India in Mombasa Mr. Rama Kant Kumar was also present at the meeting.
