There are rumors that they split because Smart became more famous, or because of some conflict. Why did they separate?

GIR: Maybe it’s just the nature of the company. We just feel like, if you don’t like us, then you don’t have to work with us. We can just go our separate ways, do our own work, and support our own companies. There’s no need to attack each other. Just live separately, that’s all. That’s how we feel, if you want to continue, you can, but for us, we’ve had enough.

How did you feel when you received the notice that your couple activities were ending?

SM: Well… seeing the fans’ comments definitely affected me. Honestly, I do feel regret that our pairing had to end. I’ve heard people say a lot, “Why did you split? If you stayed as a pair, it could’ve gone even better.” And honestly, I thought the same. If we continued working as a duo, we could’ve grown more and gone further. There would’ve been more opportunities too. But I felt like that place wasn’t right for me anymore, and I couldn’t keep going. So I chose to fade out from that situation. I regret it just like everyone else. I also want to apologize to many people, I saw how hurt they were. Even now, I still miss our pairing. But personally, I just couldn’t continue. If I forced myself to keep going, I don’t know what would happen to me in the future. So I chose to protect myself, so I could keep doing my work properly. As for my partner, I really regret losing a partnership that worked so well together. We had great chemistry, and that’s something I truly regret.

While you were going through difficulties, did your partner know about what you went through?

SM: Umm… I’m not sure. When I talked with my partner, we mostly talked about positive things. Like if we had work the next day, we’d discuss how to make our mood and chemistry good, so that fans who traveled far to see us would feel it was worth it. That was the kind of conversations we had.

So you didn’t talk about the problems between the companies?

SM: No, I didn’t talk about that with him. Those were matters for the adults to handle.

During filming, when you had issues like stomach pain or exhaustion, your partner must have seen it, right?

SM: Yes, he did check on me and asked how I was doing. At that time, I told him I was okay,I said I could handle it.

So you’re confirming that you and your partner didn’t have any issues with each other?

SM: Yes, that’s right. We had no problems at all. The issues I mentioned were things that had been building up behind the scenes like management problems and other things not related to my partner.
Honestly, even now, I still really regret losing that partnership.

When you had to decide to end your activities as a pair, did you talk to your partner?

SM: A little. We found out about the announcement at the same time, and after that we talked a bit.

Were you affected by fans’ comments after the split? And how did you feel about people misunderstanding you at that time, when you couldn’t speak up?

SM: It definitely affected me. How should I say this… I chose to protect myself, and maybe people see that as selfish. I can only accept that, because it was my decision. I didn’t try to publicly explain my reasons. I just accepted what I chose.
When the backlash came, I just accepted it and kept moving forward. Even if what I did seemed selfish, I don’t think it’s wrong to want to protect myself. I hoped that one day I would be able to speak about it and I guess that day is today.hahaha
