THIS IS WHAT PUPPIES WERE LIVING IN AT SAPS ROODEPLAAT K9 FACILITY

This footage was supplied to us as having been recorded at the SAPS K9 Academy in Roodeplaat during the period of the parvovirus outbreaks.

It appears to show puppies confined in deeply unhygienic conditions, with food lying on the floor among their faeces.

Parvovirus is highly contagious and spreads through infected faeces and contaminated environments. Proper cleaning, isolation, vaccination and strict biosecurity are therefore fundamental.

SAPS’s own statement records that 75 puppies died during the 2019 outbreak.

A further 45 were lost in 2020, eight died and 37 were euthanised. That is 120 puppies across the two outbreaks.

We are publishing this footage because the public deserves to know what conditions existed, what SAPS investigated and what was done about it.

Who inspected these kennels? Who was responsible for hygiene and disease control? Were these conditions reported, and if so, what action followed? Most importantly, why did the same facility remain under a cloud of serious animal-welfare concerns years later?

We will submit the footage for authentication and demand the inspection reports, cleaning registers, duty rosters, outbreak investigations and disciplinary outcomes.

Sky has become a voice for every police animal that could not speak for itself. We will not allow these questions to disappear again.
