At 10:00 am (December 24, 2025), the Thai military used T-50 fighter jets to drop four bombs into a civilian residential area deep into Cambodian sovereign territory in Banan district, Battambang province, along the route to Pailin Province, before continuing toward Chanthaburi Province. The T-50 is an aircraft manufactured in South Korea. So far, the Thai military has used three types of aircraft—made in the United States, Sweden, and South Korea—to carry out attacks on Cambodia.”

[Op-Ed] Let me begin by acknowledging that the US has called for restraint and ceasefire. Cambodians appreciate these diplomatic efforts, including past US engagement under President Donald Trump, which showed that Washington can play a constructive role. But appreciation alone does not protect lives when Thailand repeatedly ignores US calls. When warnings are issued without consequence, diplomacy loses its meaning. The United States must do more than speak.

Thai Military Attacks Damage Homes in Samraong City as War Enters 14th Day
(Oddar Meanchey): As of Saturday (Dec. 20), it has been 14 days since Thai military forces launched an armed aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Cambodia, resulting in widespread destruction and humanitarian suffering.
The continued attacks have forced nearly half a million civilians to flee their homes to escape sustained artillery shelling. Civilian infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, including homes, pagodas, schools, administrative buildings, commercial facilities, roads, and bridges serving public needs.
On Saturday, Fresh News journalists reporting on the ground documented extensive damage to civilian homes caused by Thai artillery shelling in Konkriel Commune, Samraong City.
At the time of reporting, the sound of heavy artillery fired by Thai troops into Cambodian territory could still be heard. In Konkriel Commune, particularly around the Phoung Circle area, numerous houses were damaged, with some structures severely hit and others partially destroyed.
Fresh News journalists also observed multiple large and deep shell craters along roads and within residential areas.

As the Thai army continues its military invasion of Cambodian territory, the true victims aren't squaddies on a battlefield, but ordinary Cambodian civilians—children, women, families—whose lives, homes, and futures are being trashed.

As of 12:00 a.m., December 22, 2025, Thailand has conducted 23 airstrikes on Cambodia, destroying military targets and civilian infrastructure, including primary schools, pagodas, and bridges (bombings listed below).
The Thai airstrikes are unanswered. Cambodia does not have its own fighter aircraft or any surface-to-air defenses. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of 518,611 Cambodians.(1) Thailand also reports 213,072 people displaced out of precaution from Cambodian artillery fire.(2) Khmer people are suffering. The Thai provinces along the border are populated by Khmer people, such as Surin province, which is estimated to be at least 63% Khmer.(3)
Thailand agreed to an unconditional ceasefire on July 28, 2025, pressured by U.S. President Trump. President Trump oversaw the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord by Thai Prime Minister Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 26, 2025. However, on November 10, 2025, Thai Prime Minister Anutin announced that Thailand was suspending the peace accord.(4,5)
Anutin’s public reason for cancelling the peace accord was that four Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine on a jungle path in disputed territory on November 10, 2025.(6)
However, Anutin is influenced by political calculus. Anutin, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party (“Thai Pride Party”) became prime minister on September 5, 2025, with the help of the much larger People’s Power Party which called for a referendum on the constitution to shift power from the unelected Senate. Anutin falsely agreed to support a referendum as October 1, 2025.(7)
Anutin’s November 10 cancellation of peace accord occurred only after he was aware that he would face an election. On November 5, 2025, Anutin himself stated “If we can’t win the political game, we’ll dissolve the House”.(8) Early elections became even more certain for Anutin on November 9, 2025, when the People’s Party demanded an extraordinary session for constitutional amendment, rejected by Anutin.(9)
Adding to Anutin's desperation, his approval rating dropped from 48% to only 23% following the slow response to floods in Southern Thailand from November 21-24.(10)
The commencement of war with Cambodia on December 7, 2025, strategically positioned Anutin for reelection ahead of the dissolution of parliament on December 12, 2025.

The four civilian victims who lost their lives in Banteay Meanchey Province result from acts of aggression against Cambodia’s sovereignty by the Thailand Government and military, through the firing and dropping of various types of munitions into civilian areas. #PeaceinCambodia
We urge Thailand to ensure the safety of Cambodian citizens near the border and to take immediate action to protect their rights. Stop harming our people we deserve peace and safety.

I strongly condemn the unprovoked use of violence by the Thai side against innocent Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan Village in the afternoon of 12 November 2025, which resulted in injuries to three Cambodian civilians and the tragic loss of one life.
This act violates international humanitarian law and international law, and goes against humanitarian principles and the mutual agreement previously reached to resolve border issues through peaceful means—especially the agreement to allow the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to conduct survey and emplacement of temporary markers, and to maintain the status quo until the completion of the survey and a final decision by the JBC.
I call on the Thai side to immediately cease the use of force against innocent Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan Village and to refrain from any use of force in addressing border issues between our two countries.
I also call for an independent investigation into this incident and appeal for the participation of qualified international parties to uncover the truth and those responsible in order to deliver justice for the victims.
At the same time, I instructed the local authorities and all security forces to take urgent measures to protect our civilians—placing absolute priority on their safety and lives.
Cambodia remains committed to resolving this border issue peacefully, in accordance with the spirit of the Joint Declaration signed in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October 2025, with the goal of ending the conflict and building peace between our two nations.
