@Mug_of_Gasoline I'm so tired of background characters 😩 I want main storyline stuff. And it'd be great if it wasn't just a romance genre but just happens to have queer romance in it.
Pride Month Ramble: I think atm in history a queer relationship in media can't be considered "forced" or "slop". The term hetslop/feeling forced stems from men + women automatically being together cuz it's the standard. Queer pairings usually have to be fought for to even appear.
@sailorpsychd TLDR: Its actually crazy how far people will go in fandom spaces for fictional characters. And there's genuinely a bubble effect in fandoms where they think being straight is a minority and it's delusional.
@sailorpsychd oh my gosh it got even weirder too. There was legitimately folks ignoring BTS info and saying we lied to them? That somehow we changed the season last minute??
Final nail in the casket was seeing folks saying they were being oppressed... for the mlw ship.
@sailorpsychd As Tristan's VA - lemme tell you bro - the amount of people that said Tristan with Benji was forced felt so weird. Coincidentally the same people seemed to say a lot of transphoic things about Tristan too + the 'getting in the way' 'they dont seem like partner type' comments.
@sailorpsychd It makes me feel like I'm going insane because I never had ANY growing up - and there's barely any now. I've noticed the shift even around ships in fandom spaces: "They're shoving it down are throats" "why cant they be just friends" as if those are homophobic talking points.
@B3LPH3GOR_ Like it's never trans masc Benji HCs I see and idk if its just trans people who see themselves in him - which in that case - power to you!
But it's also not lost on me that there seems to be an inherent inability to picture Tristan, a nonbinary person, with a man.
Like I need people to understand that is why Trinji was on Pink News - because they are genuinely the only nblm in a cartoon and NB kisses are not shown.
First day of pride month: please be aware how lil rep trans people get and strive for more.
I really think people don't understand how little nonbinary characters exist in the first place.
A human nonbinary person with an on screen kiss in a cartoon - does not happen.
On a similar note fun fact: trinji is the only human nblm couple in a cartoon ✨ so let that sink in.
@B3LPH3GOR_ I genuinely think it's a bias. Also no hate but I remember the fandom used to call Tristan a lesbian all the time in the beginning. And now there's a really big shift of making Benji trans fem w Tris - and I love trans HCs - but it feels weird when it's very the only NBLM
@B3LPH3GOR_ I lowkey feel there's a sub section of people who think nonbinary identities are "girl lite" - so the idea of nblm is foreign. It also leads to a lot of people weirdly thinking amab folks arent nb??

Just a lil tangent - I see way too many spaces apply these terms to queer characters and it - legitimately doesn't work because it cannot translate.
Poor execution of a relationship ≠ being forced
Intentionality matters.
And this isn't even touching why the terms hetslop/forced relationships were made to begin with: to explain a straight couple with zero chemistry - the woman usually suffering development + experiencing character death for the man's benefit.
