First Lieutenant John R. Fox (Delta 1937) is the only Kappa to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroism in WWII, sacrificing himself to halt a German attack. Posthumously honored in 1997.

Jesse D. Locker (Cincinnati Alumni, 1945) was the second Black U.S. Ambassador. He ran a Cincinnati law practice for ~35 years and, in 1941, became the first Black elected to the Cincinnati City Council, (12 years as President). Locker was appointed Ambassador to Liberia.
