When I look at this picture of my parents on their wedding day, I see more than a beautiful couple. I see two people who chose to link their love to a purpose bigger than themselves.

Their partnership held a shared commitment to confront injustice without losing sight of each other’s humanity. That kind of joint vision is not effortless. It is chosen and re-chosen.

On this Valentine’s Day, I am grateful for the way Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King loved God, loved each other, and loved humanity in a way that still challenges and inspires us to Be Love today.
